Personal Items
Packing your bags for traveling to some cool place like Malaga,
doesn’t mean you pack anything and everything. The city
has its restrictions. Visitors can bring the following items
into the country duty-free: a litre of spirits or two of fortified
wine, 200 cigarettes, 100 small cigars, 50 small cigars and
250g of tobacco and any personal valuables, such as jewellery,
cameras, portable video and sound equipment, sports equipment,
perfumes, coffee and tea etc. Travelers need not have a sales
receipt, but at times it is prudent to carry them incase harassed
by the Customs official.
Currency
Monetary transactions are carried out by Spanish and foreign
currency, banker's drafts and traveler’s cheques are
the easiest way of carrying money while traveling and these
can be imported and exported without being declared up to
a limit of 1,000,000 pesetas.
Pets
Pets may be brought along as long as it bears a suitable Health
Certificate issued by a recognized vet from the country of
origin, which indicates the dates of the last vaccines and,
in particular, that of an anti-rabies shot.
EU Customs
Spain being part of the European Customs Union, practices
stringent custom controls.
Visitor entering from outside the European Customs Union,
Gibraltar, Andorra, Cueta, Melilla are outside this union.
VAT (IVA) is charged on the importation of goods.
Non-EU residents who export their holiday purchases can reclaim
the VAT paid at time of purchase. Visitors can complete an
application form at time of purchase; have this stamped by
customs on departure, and post this copy back to the shop
that is responsible for make the refund.
