Where to go
You’ve landed in the city completely perplexed at its sheer
size. Don’t worry…Take any Metro train from Randolph
Street Station to 55-56-57 Street stop. You will reach the historic
Hyde Park on the South Side of the city, which boasts the presence
of University of Chicago with its many Nobel Prize winners; it has
the perfect place for nibbling on a quick breakfast.
Then go to Medici on 57th, approximately five blocks west of the
Metro track and get "Eggs Espresso.” This will certainly
help you through an exhaustive day in the city. Hyde Park has a
lot to see.
If you are traveling with kids, the Science and Industry Museum,
the largest in the world, on two blocks east of the Metra Track
on 57th Street is a perfect place to let them enjoy.
On the other hand, if you are in a group of old gags, than simply
pay a visit to one of Frank Lloyd Wright's, the most beautiful creations;
The Robie House, two blocks away from Medici on the corner of Woodlawn
Avenue and 58th Street
If you still have energy left, then you could jolly well climb up
to the tallest Sears Tower, for a magnificent view or from the John
Hancock Building, which is right near the Old Water Tower on Michigan
Avenue.
Dining
Chicago's cosmopolitan composition is reflected in its plethora
of ethnic restaurants. Italian food, ranging from hearty deep-dish
pizza (developed in 1953 at Pizzeria Uno) to delicately crafted
creations presented at stylish trattorias, carry on to be among
the favorites. Thai restaurants, Mediterranean slant, and plenty
of Eastern European, German, Mexican, Chinese, Indian, even Burmese,
and Ethiopian outlets thrive in the city.
No visit is complete without sampling a messy Italian beef sandwich,
or a Chicago-style hot dog, laden with tomatoes, onions, hot peppers
and a pickle.
Chicago pizza, hot dogs, beef sandwiches, and Midwestern steaks
are also highly recommended.
Entertainment
Chicago has had some of the best nightlife in the US. Birthplace
of Muddy Waters' urban blues, as well as R&B's Chess Records,
is still going strong, inspiring the energetic dance beat of 1980s
house music as well as the groundbreaking jazz of the Art Ensemble
of Chicago. Nightclubs aplenty are all over town, especially along
Halsted Street, Lincoln Avenue and Clark Street on the North Side.
Uptown, at the intersection of North Broadway and Lawrence, is a
bit down-at-the-heel, but has half a dozen good venues. The best
gay clubs congregate in the Lincoln Park area. Highbrow pursuits
are also well provided for: Chicago's classical music, dance, and
theater are excellent.
Shopping
The people of Chicago are great shopping lovers as can be seen from
the magnificent strip of shopping malls and complexes selling from
upscale boutiques to discount outlet malls,. The Michigan Avenue
from the Chicago River to Oak Street features a wide variety of
shops including indoor shopping malls, such as Water Tower Place
and 900 North Michigan Shops.
Shoppers can include the thrill of an amusement park with their
