Covered with lushness of gardens and the
agreeable atmosphere, Tenerife, the son of Pluton as the rest
of the Canary Island is a lively place to be at.
While the volcanic development of the eastern islands started
more than 20 Million years ago, the oldest mountain ranges
of Tenerife cropped up from the Atlantic much later (about
8 to 12 Million years ago).
During the olden days, the natives of Tenerife where believed
to be the bravest and most feared from the canary inhabitants
who displayed their valor.
The city houses a number of buildings of great historical
and artistic value such as the church of Nuestra Señora
de la Peña, la Ermita de San Telmo, el castillo de
San Felipe, la casa de la Aduana and the old quay where small
fishing boats are still moored.
The streets near the Plaza del Charco and the promenade are
pleasant places of enjoyment especially during evenings. You
can eat at any of the many open-air restaurants, with a pleasant
climate and the calm sea. Traveling to the outskirts of the
city, you will find many botanical gardens. Just a few miles
outside the city, you can pay a visit to the Loro Park, a
perfect haunt for nature lovers. It has the largest collection
of parrots in the world and an excellent dolphinarium.
